'CHOICE' DISCUSSION CARDS

Let's get talking!                                                   PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR GAMES LIST

EGAR 'CHOICE' Discussion 'talking tool' cards have been designed with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and Every Child Matters (ECM) programmes in mind. They are for staff teams to use as additional or complementary to the National Curriculum, PSHE 'Learning for Life' programmes for youth workers, teachers, mentors, youth offending teams, Counsellors, PRU's and parents/carers in a domestic situation, in fact anyone working with or helping Children and Teenagers.

'CHOICE' Discussion Cards can also be used to support and complement, personal advisors, recreational and mentor programmes in youth clubs/projects. The discussion cards will promote choice about a Personal, Social or Health Education issue (PSHE) and will encourage self responsibility in an informal, non judgemental way. They will enhance young people with communication skills and help them make informed life choices, they will also highlight support or action needed.

HOW EGAR WORKS

Staff or Parents can interact with young people in a one to one situation or through collaborative (group) learning. EGAR learning method will positively enhance many teenage learning for life skills in communication and conversation within a focused direction setting, enhancing self responsibility and personal development by talking and discussing together real life issues in a non judgemental way.   Throughout the discussions, observation takes place of their own and each other's facial expressions, opinions, body language, the cards will help to develop their self esteem, social skills, confidence, team skills, decision making and exploration of thoughts and feelings; all without the use of a screen.  Young people answer the main question on a card, they then choose their answers through a choice of other cards listing them from most important to least important, staff trigger questions throughout the discussion about the choices being made, the process will challenge mindsets and attitudes aswell as enhance all of the above and will highlight support needed or not! The games are inherent in getting young people back to connecting using face to face communication through language, something that has been lost in some of their lives!

The cards can also be used as 'ICEBREAKERS' in a training capacity. The discussion cards are a dynamic tool that are easy to use, saving precious time and facilitating open and honest discussion. Enclosed in the box is instructions/ground rules/parent guide/customer pledge and an 'Other Ideas For This Game' card giving you scope of use around the issue and the ability to fully use the contents of the box.  No age is suggested for EGAR games, staff can use their discretion to suit the needs of the children, teenager and/or young person/group. Camden and Islington schools and youth clubs have tried and tested the cards and have given very positive feedback that you can read about on our Testimonials page.
